Rugbyfest begun in 1968 when a couple of players - Lynn Davies and David Graham decided to organize a common function for the Edmonton teams that had individually hosted clubs from other provinces. The name "Rugbyfest" was coined and excites everyone who has participated in the past.
Teams from B.C. and the Prairies travel to Edmonton to play games against Edmonton clubs with many social events through the weekend - some of them, like the Winnipeg Wasps, have been annual Edmonton visitors for over 35 years. The fest has been an international host to teams from Idaho, Montana, California, Connecticut, Ireland, and Scotland. |

It is Rugby Alberta’s mission to govern, promote and develop the sport of rugby within Alberta in accordance with the IRB Laws of the Game and the IRB Playing Charter as well as within the constitutional guidelines and the by-laws of Rugby Canada.

Rugby football has a long history in Canada dating back to its initial appearance in the 1860's. Introduction of the game and its early growth is generally credited to immigrants, members of the regimental armies, and to the Royal Navy in Halifax, NS and Esquimalt, BC.
